Assagai helps clothing companies build their own unique trademark and brand identity. Their in-house information centre features a wide range of textiles and fabrics sourced locally and internationally.
The need for substantial foreign direct investment remains one of the viable interventions required to extricate South Africa from the clutches of rising unemployment, widening inequalities, and grinding poverty that afflicts millions of people.
In line with its mandate of harnessing the power of localisation to fuel entrepreneurship, Proudly South African took part in the Gauteng Investment Conference, the provincial sequel to the South African Investment Conference (SAIC) that was hosted by President Cyril Ramaphosa on 31 March in Johannesburg.
The Gauteng Investment Conference is an annual economic event organised by the Gauteng Provincial Government to attract investment, drive economic growth, and strengthen Gauteng’s position as a global investment destination.
In line with our mandate to champion the localisation message, Eustace Mashimbye, Proudly South African Chief Executive Officer, was allocated a speaking opportunity at the event, where he reiterated the importance of harnessing localisation as a lever to revitalise industrialisation and stimulate entrepreneurship in the province.
Eustace’s localisation advocacy engagements did not end here. He was also invited by the South African Social Media Awards (SASMA), where he delivered a keynote address that spoke to the importance of supporting local talent, strengthening South Africa’s creative economy and recognising platforms that contribute to national development through innovation, enterprise and cultural impact. Proudly South African is a partner of the SASMA Awards, which celebrate excellence, creativity, and influence in South Africa’s digital and social media landscape.
Our collaboration with SASMA is in recognition of the power of social media and influencers to celebrate local excellence, connect with audiences and foster meaningful conversations about the importance of ramping up support for home-grown products and services.
In addition to these speaking opportunities, Eustace was also a keynote speaker at the GS1 South Africa Indaba, where he delivered a presentation titled: Localisation, Market Access and SMME Growth. In his speech, Eustace said localisation can revive South Africa’s declining manufacturing capabilities, and in turn, generate much-needed job opportunities in labour-intensive sectors and across the value chain.
The Proudly South African team also headed to Stillbaai in the Western Cape for a factory tour of Inverroche, South Africa’s luxury gin that was founded by Lorna Scott. Inverroche was recently acquired by Pernod Ricard, the world's second-largest wine and spirits seller that operates in over 160 countries.
During the factory tour, Inverroche reiterated its commitment to South Africa, the sustainability of the local flora and fauna through continued use of fynbos botanicals in the production of the gins, and to the Stillbaai and the Riversdale area, where it is the biggest employer in the region. Approximately 70% of Inverroche’s employees are women, many of whom are heads of single-parent households.
During the visit, Lorna also reassured the guests that she will continue to be actively involved in the brand, ensuring that her passion and deep knowledge remain integral to Inverroche's future within the Pernod Ricard group.
During the month, the Franchise Association of South Africa (FASA) hosted a workshop where Proudly South African was invited to participate. As customary, we invited some of our members to participate in the event to learn more about the franchise and procurement opportunities that are available in that sector.
Staying true to our ethos of creating market access opportunities for our members, we invited four of our members to exhibit and sell at the Eyethu Day and Night Market in Soweto. The event also doubled up as a fan park for the popular Soweto Derby, ensuring a packed venue which presented immense brand exposure and selling opportunities for the members.
As we head into the winter season, preparations are underway to host the popular Proudly South African Local Wine Expo at the iconic Prison Break in Johannesburg on 24 and 25 July. We promise a bigger and more memorable event where local production is acknowledged and celebrated.
Here is to more exciting and engaging advocacy work to celebrate everything that is Made Here. Loved Here.

Every sink we produce reflects the ingenuity of African design, the precision of South African engineering, and the assurance of longevity. Just as the rhinoceros stands firm against the challenges of nature, our products are built to withstand the demands of modern living, offering reliability for generations.A Brand Rooted in AfricaAfrican Sinks has always been committed to excellence, but our refreshed identity marks a bold step forward. Investing in People, Building for the FutureAs founders of African Sinks, the owners bring more than 50 years of combined experience in manufacturing and trading stainless steel products into the heart of the business. Beyond their technical expertise, they are investing personal time and savings into their employees—teaching vital trade skills and empowering the team to carry the business forward into the future. This small but growing team is developing organically alongside the company, gradually expanding its impact on the community directly involved. Every sink produced is not just a product, but a testament to craftsmanship, care, and pride. Each satisfied customer represents more than a purchase—it is support for South African manufacturing, local steel merchants, transporters, retail outlets, bookkeepers, bankers, and ultimately, the families who rely on this work every day.Choosing a Rhino sink is therefore more than a practical decision; it is a choice that strengthens communities, sustains livelihoods, and connects the end user to the broader vision of Proudly South African growth and resilience.
As a company aligned with the Proudly South African movement, African Sinks champions local innovation and sustainability.
