During the month of September, Proudly South African joined millions of citizens to celebrate the country's rich and diversified cultural heritage as part of the commemoration of Heritage Month.
The month of September was action-packed and kicked off with the Proudly SA team participating at the Creative Cnergy Policy & Investment Symposium 2026 as a strategic partner. The event took place in Sandton under the theme "Aligned for Impact."
As part of its participation, Proudly SA showcased the creativity, talent, and economic potential of South Africa's local fashion industry. The activation featured the "Local Fashion Police" concept, which incorporated a mock mobile jail cell and pop-up showcases by local fashion designers. The participating designers included Mzukisi Mbane, Anel Botha, and Mpumelelo Dhlamini.
The models in attendance showcased the designers' locally produced garments, creating an engaging platform to highlight South African fashion. Proudly South African CEO Eustace Mashimbye addressed the delegates on the importance of the local creative industries, entrepreneurship, and the economic impact of supporting South African businesses. The event provided an opportunity to engage with creative industry stakeholders, promote local designers and reinforce Proudly South African's mandate to encourage the support and growth of locally produced products, services and businesses.
Proudly SA's participation at the event is in line with the organisation's mandate of stimulating reindustrialisation and job creation by championing consumer, public and private sector support for locally manufactured goods and services. This mandate aligns closely with the symposium's core purpose of strengthening South Africa's creative and cultural industries, which currently contribute an estimated R300 billion to the national economy (about 4% of GDP) and support approximately 1.4 million jobs.
SA's creative & cultural industries: R300 billion to GDP (about 4%) — supporting approximately 1.4 million jobs.
We also took part in the 947 Joburg Day in the town of Lanseria in the northwest of Johannesburg. As the name of the event denotes, Joburg Day is a vibrant celebration of Johannesburg's music, culture, fashion, and lifestyle. The event hosted over 12 000 attendees for a full day of entertainment and immersive experiences.
Proudly SA hosted an interactive stand in the main activation zone, which created a platform for local businesses to connect directly with consumers. The stand featured apparel by Boys of Soweto and Bar SA Clothing, who showcased their locally produced offerings and engaged with festivalgoers throughout the day. One of the biggest crowd favourites was the Shesha 3.2.1 game activation, which attracted strong participation and created an exciting, interactive experience for attendees.

The activation successfully connected consumers with Proudly South African brands and created direct consumer engagement opportunities for local brands. In addition, it strengthened Proudly SA's presence at a major Johannesburg lifestyle and entertainment event while bringing the #LovedHereMadeHere message to a large and diverse festival audience.
Still on the topic of festivities, Proudly SA also participated in Kiddichella, which is a two-day family-focused festival held at Zoo Lake Sports Club in the north of Johannesburg. The event attracted approximately 5 000 attendees over the two-day period and provided an engaging platform for local businesses to connect with families and consumers.
In line with our commitment to provide market access opportunities for our members, we invited six local businesses, namely Entle Kiddies, Poju Poju, Khwezi Books, Cassie Kids, Kool Crew and Moyena Group, to showcase their offerings at a dedicated member pavilion. The pavilion provided members with an opportunity to showcase their products, engage directly with consumers, and build awareness among a family-focused audience, which created increased visibility and engagement opportunities for participating members. Proudly SA also hosted an interactive stand featuring prize giveaways and a Claw Grabber, which proved to be a popular attraction among children and families throughout the weekend.

During the same month, the Proudly SA team embarked on a campus tour where it undertook the Shesha 3.2.1 game activation at the Vaal University of Technology. The activation was well received by the students and created a vibrant and lively atmosphere as the students pitted their knowledge of everything local.
During the same activation, Proudly SA also hosted the Local Fashion Police Masterclass at the campus where seasoned and established fashion designers and industry experts shared industry insights and fashion know-how with emerging fashion designers.
As we edged into October, I was invited to speak at the Takealot Seller's Summit at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg. This year the event featured a dedicated seller development and empowerment hub aimed at helping sellers build stronger businesses and scale.
Proudly South African also participated in the Gold Reef City Night Market, a new consumer-focused market that brought together local food, lifestyle, craft, and family-friendly brands. We once again participated in the Victoria Yards First Sunday Market, providing a platform for four Proudly South African member companies to showcase and sell their locally made products directly to consumers.
In the month under review, we also hosted two impactful webinars that sought to empower and impart critical insights to our members. The first one was titled: From Farm to Fork: Strengthening South Africa's Poultry Value Chain Through Local Procurement, Innovation and Market Access. The webinar brought together industry leaders, government, retailers, producers, and agricultural experts and explored practical strategies for growing the local poultry value chain. Discussions covered local procurement, supplier development, innovation, sustainable production, biosecurity, export opportunities, technology adoption and strategic partnerships that drive industry growth.
The second webinar hosted was titled: Digital Transformation for SMMEs: Driving Growth in the Digital Economy. The webinar brought together industry leaders, government, technology experts, financial institutions, and digital innovators who shared practical strategies for accelerating digital transformation. Discussions explored digital marketing, artificial intelligence (AI), e-commerce, fintech, cybersecurity, cloud computing, digital payment solutions and online market access.
We are looking forward to another action-packed month as we edge closer to the grand finale of the Local Fashion Police grand finale. This much-awaited event will be preceded by the adjudication process, where our panel of esteemed judges will consider thousands of entry submissions and pick the top 20, top 10 and winners.
Looking ahead, we eagerly await participating in a round of exciting activations in the month of October, most notably the Back to the City, a festival that features artists representing the pinnacle of artistic expression from South Africa and abroad. This unique annual youth event has grown into the largest public display of both commercial and underground hip hop in Africa, presenting a day of live music, street art, break-dancing, art installation, skateboarding, film, street fashion, gaming, speakers, and panel discussions.
We are also looking forward to participating in the Fourways Rustic & Gourmet Market. The event is an eco-conscious community market that celebrates local South African products, small businesses, food, creativity, and live entertainment, and make our maiden appearance at the GQ Best Dressed Man, where we will be doing the red carpet "Are you wearing local" activation.
In line with our mandate of creating market access opportunities for our members, we have invited four of our members to the [MARKET NAME TBC] to sell their wares to a captive audience at the market. This opportunity enabled our members to increase their brand visibility, engage directly with consumers, generate sales, and promote the importance of supporting locally produced goods.
In conclusion, I am pleased to announce that the Local Fashion Police was nominated for the best fashion campaign by the South African Fashion Awards. Our work in elevating the stature of local fashion over the last six years of this campaign has not gone unnoticed.
