In light of the announcement by the State President yesterday following the special cabinet meeting, declaring the current Covid-19 pandemic a national disaster, and banning all gatherings of more than 100 people, Proudly South African has taken the decision to postpone its 9th annual Buy Local Summit & Expo, scheduled to have taken place on 23 and 24 March at the Sandton Convention Centre.
The summit segment of the event was set to host around 700 delegates per day, whilst more than 230 exhibitor companies in the Expo would attract hundreds more over the 2 days. Such a gathering could potentially pose a risk of inadvertently spreading the disease, should any of the delegates have been in contact with the COVID-19 virus.
Said CEO of Proudly SA, Eustace Mashimbye, ‘It is regrettable that we have had to come to this decision, especially since this edition of the Buy Local Summit & Expo was to have been our biggest and most important yet, but we understand the imperative to protect the health of the public and of the country. We will work towards finding an alternative date when the environment is deemed safe and when all our sponsors and stakeholders can once again be brought together.
The new date for the Buy Local Summit & Expo will be communicated as soon as it has been finalised.
