Dr John Kani reprises his role as the conscience of a country in the new Proudly South African television commercial.

Dr John Kani reprises his role as the conscience of a country in the new Proudly South African television commercial. ‘Game Time’ calls on every one of us to buy local goods and services in order to save and create jobs and put the South African economy and South Africans, back in the game.

Shot in profuse South African business settings, the commercial aims to deliver an emotive contrast of events from a closed beauty centre, then a bakery to a fashion boutique and big businesses.

The #GameTime commercial not only seeks to encourage South African’s to buy local good and services during the pandemic but also reminds us as South Africans of all the great moments we’ve experienced as a nation; reminding us that “the World remembers about us, what we sometimes forget”

The approach, to create the imagery of South Africa as a soccer team, and the coach addressing his players in the changing room, Dr Kani reminds us that “It’s time to change the scoreboard”. The tagline sets to remind us to return to the economical pitch and change the future by buying local to in order to keep the doors of all South African businesses open, because as the infamous township lingo says, “Local Is Lekker!”

The second half has indeed begun and It’s #GameTime Mzansi!
