As our oceans and landfill sites become clogged with plastic waste, one Proudly South African company is leading the charge converting recycled pet cool drink bottles into quality geotextile used in the construction and rehabilitation of roads and of dams and embankments, in water and waste containment and the control of soil erosion and environmental damage associated with wave and tidal action.
Not only are Kaytech’s products unique, as Africa’s largest geosynthetics producer they recently received Petco’s (The South African Polyester recycling company) 2018 Award for Innovator of the Year, acknowledging their industry leadership in an important sector.
Now, Kaytech’s locally manufactured geosynthetics have been recognized by Proudly South African and will bear the tick of quality assurance that only member companies can use.
With 40 years’ experience in manufacturing geosynthetics, Kaytech has perfected their use in civil engineering as well as for domestic applications. Their core product, the well-known bidim * is geotextile manufactured from 100% selected recycled polyester from cold drink bottles that have become an environmental headache. Their products retain, separate, and contain water, waste, and soil, and their convenient bidim Flashpack for home and garden enthusiasts can be used in small ponds, on gravel paths and in sandpits, amongst many other uses.
Kaytech maintains the largest library on all matters relating to geosynthetics at their Pinetown base which is open to all its customers.
Said Damian Judge of Kaytech on the signing of their membership agreement with Proudly South African, “It is important for us to have the endorsement of the country’s buy local advocacy group as it reaffirms the quality of our products and enables us to fly the South African flag overseas on all our export orders. From humble beginnings in the 1970s, Kaytech has grown to be an award winning manufacturer and we are delighted to be part of Proudly South African.”
Kaytech is an exporter to the rest of Africa, South America, the Middle East and parts of South East Asia.
