Local Fashion’s most wanted Proudly South African Fashion Police unveils the top 40 suspects of local fashion

The investigation is in full swing! Proudly South African, is thrilled to announce the Top 40 finalists of the highly anticipated 2024 Local Fashion Police competition. This consumer-driven campaign, now in its 4th year, has taken a daring investigative turn as South Africa’s fashion detectives hunt down the most stylish advocates of locally made clothing.

After combing through hundreds of entries showcasing the creativity and pride of South Africans wearing locally crafted garments, our esteemed panel of judges has finally narrowed it down to 40 finalists who have been caught fashionably guilty. This year’s Local Fashion Police, led by some of the country’s top design experts, has stepped up the challenge with a fresh set of eyes on the case. Orapeleng Modutle (OM Style Avenue), Jessica Jane Molebatsi (Molebatsi), Mzukisi Mbane (Imprint ZA), and Ole Ledimo (House of Ole) have been hard at work, using their sharp judgement and eye for design to find South Africa’s best local fashion supporters.

Chief Marketing Officer of Proudly South African, Happy MaKhumalo Ngidi, shared her excitement, “This year’s Local Fashion Police has been our most exciting edition yet. We’ve embraced the investigation theme to create a thrilling, interactive experience, while still staying true to our core mission, shining a spotlight on local fashion. We want to hold consumers accountable, encouraging them to ‘make their rand count’ by supporting locally made fashion, which in turn supports local jobs and the growth of our economy. The Local Fashion Police campaign goes beyond glitz and glamour, focusing on everyday wear, leisure, and work attire. If the clothing is locally made, anyone can enter the competition and stand a chance to win big. The campaign’s core goal is to encourage a mindset that prioritizes local garments over cheaper imports, showcasing the wide range of South African options that cater to all budgets.

The Top 40 Finalists (in no particular order) are:

These 40 contenders are now just one step away from the final showdown, where only four will emerge victorious, winning R40,000 worth of fashion from one of the distinguished judges. Each prize will be spent directly with the designers, ensuring that local talent is supported and celebrated. The 2024 Local Fashion Police competition is more than just a celebration of style — it’s a call to action. By choosing local fashion, consumers are helping to bolster South Africa’s Retail, Clothing, Textile, Footwear, and Leather (R-CTFL) sectors, which are crucial to our economy. As Ngidi pointed out, Our fashion industry has enormous potential to create jobs and contributes to the broader value chain. With FNB on board, we’re able to give even more visibility to this sector, while encouraging consumers to consciously buy local.”

This exciting campaign will culminate in a spectacular fashion show, where the Top 4 winners will strut down the runway in bespoke designs created by the Local Fashion Police judges themselves. The grand finale promises to be a dazzling showcase of South Africa’s vibrant fashion talent, so stay tuned!

The Investigation Continues!

The countdown is on as the Local Fashion Police prepare to reveal the final four winners who will take centre stage. Our trusted investigators will announce the top 10 local fashion culprits this October, for a full-on questioning which will lead to the big reveal of 4 winners in early November 2024.
