Spring is in the air! Step out in Proudly SA style – and sashay your way to R20K worth of local fashion

Whether drip, swag, shweshwe, edgy, glamorous or classic is your thing, flaunt your South African-made clothes, shoes and accessories this season – and Proudly South African’s Local Fashion Police may just promote you to “chief constable of style” for your fabulous local fashion sense.

“Spring is in full bloom, and this gives South Africa’s fashionistas the perfect excuse to get out their glad rags, crafted with beautiful local textiles and fabrics by our very own designers and garment makers. Let’s heed the call to embrace LOCAL fully, and show everyone just what we’re made of,” says Proudly SA chief marketing officer Happy maKhumalo Ngidi.

“Let’s see that eye-catching and jaw-dropping local fashion sense, originality, creativity and flair! Our Local Fashion Police judges are standing by, waiting for your entries on social media, to see which of Mzansi’s fashionistas rocks those locally made threads with the most attitude, confidence, pride and sass!”

The “police” in question are leading South African fashion designers Gavin Rajah of Gavin Rajah Atelier, Sello Modupe from SCALO, Hangwani Nengovhela from Rubicon Clothing and Biji Gibbs from Biji La Maison de Couture. They’ll be scrutinising all the entries and each will select a winner of R20 000 in vouchers, redeemable from their respective fashion houses.

Local Fashion Police is a campaign by Proudly SA aimed at promoting and celebrating the clothing, textiles, footwear and leather (CTFL) industry – a significant job creator that boosts the local creative economy – through an online competition. Members of the public are invited to post photos of themselves on social media wearing South African fashion while showing the label of origin in the picture, and tagging the store and/or designer.

Come on, South Africa! Be part of this movement to boost our economy. Get your families, friends, neighbours, acquaintances and colleagues to enter this fun competition, all in the interests of promoting LOCAL garment production and job creation! Will you be one of our winners?
